This is an index of major terms and concepts in this blog UP TO (and including) the April 4, 2011 post "Socialization File, Pt. 109…". I'll be creating links for each term, but in the mean time you can search the blog for the use of each term. Also, it should be noted that I've broken these up in a way that seemed to me relatively logical for the blog, and I'm not suggesting it could be directly applied elsewhere, at least without modification. I've included comments before categories that seem that they could use it. [Note: I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the links. I was hoping to link to search results, but it doesn't seem to work. I think the search result page URL is a relative URL so it just ends out going to the blog, not to the search results. Otherwise I'll have to create links individually to each post where the term is used, which I'm not sure is realistic.]
I'm using "Communication" in a very broad sense as the exchange of meaning. "Content" is the substance of the communication, "means" is loosely how the content is conveyed, "Orientation" implies an attitude, "Qualities" is sort of miscellaneous catchall, and "Reciprocity" should be pretty self-evident. The significance of communications is its role in the various relationships I discuss.

The uncategorized forms of "Education" come into play mainly via my adult education training and background. The "Learning Styles" are the most relevant to my autobiography vis a vis my experience in Vienna because my learning style wasn't a good fit for the Vienna mission.

There is a certain amount of overlap between "Management" and "Sociology" in particular, but I tried to put the things that would be most specifically related to formal organizational oversight in the "Management" main category, but you should understand that there is some overlap. "Control" here is more intentional and top-down than under "Sociology". Control is used here to mean maintenance of organizational norms, policies, etc. I thought about putting all the "Deviance" items under "Sociology" but these here seemed specific to a more structured work context, so I kept them here. There is another much larter "Deviance" sub-category under "Sociology," however. "Standards" are what members (i.e., workers) are expected to adhere to. "Work Quality" refers to descriptions of the position a person is expected to fill.

Some of the things in the "Psychology" category were hard to categorize, especially considering that some things have a social element and/or might be related to something in "Management" as well. If I put them here it's because, generally, I thought the term was most specific to the individual, rather than a collectivity or specific to something in "Management." Again, however, there will be a certain amount of overlap with "Sociology" and "Management" especially. The subcategory "Aids" means something that is helpful to the individual. "Behavior" is something the individual does. "Challenges" are things that are mentally difficult for the individual. "Coping" means ways the individual tries to cope in various situations. I put "Culture Shock" here rather than under "Health" because the specific terms didn't seem to warrant it, I didn't think. Some of the terms in "Psychological Health" however come into play concerning culture shock, however. "Identity" refers to aspects of the person's make-up and how s/he sees him or herself. "Personal change" items here are often referred to in my discussions about socialization especially, but also group processes in general. I think the other categories should be pretty clear.

Again, there will be some overlap here with "Psychology" and also "Management" in particular. "Control" is used the same way here as it is under those other two headings. "Deviance" refers to deviance from some kind of group norm. "Environment" refers to how the group interacts with its environment or what its environment is like. "Groups" here are general types of groups, including some used in various organizational theories. "Grp. Qualities," as its name implies, refers to the qualities of a group. "Affect" refers to emotional aspects of groups, "Control" shows up again here as being more clearly organization-specific (although they could probably be combined with the other "Control" terms under "Sociology"). "Differentiation" refers to how people are positioned differently (or not) in a collective. There's another small group of "Controls" under processes because these show more of an action, I think, rather than being a static object like "norms." I think the other categories should be clear.
